The government
requires the best Mold Assessors, shouldn’t you?
July 2011
The US federal
government has “mold remediation specifications” that require the use of mold assessors that
hold at least one of certain certifications for federal mold assessment / inspections.
·Most Florida mold assessors were “grandfathered”
into their mold license and are not a CIH or CIE or CIEC or CMC.
·About a dozen licensed Mold Assessors
in the Bonita Springs area have passed one of the required exams; over 200 did NOT pass an ACAC exam and are licensed.
.
Bonita
Springs homeowners and businesses should require the mold assessor they hire to at least meet the federal government’s
minimum requirement for a mold assessor.
How can I prevent mold growth in your Bonita Springs home or business?
Water (moisture) is the key. Without it, mold growth cannot start, much less multiply and spread. The easiest
way to prevent the mold from gaining a foothold is to control dampness. Keep your home or business clean and dry. If water
stands for even 24 hours, common molds can take hold.Keeping
humidity levels below 60% and venting moisture from showering and cooking to the outside are several ways to prevent the conditions
that can lead to mold growth.
Other ways include:
§ Clean and dry up
spills within 24 hours
§ Dry out wet building
materials and carpets within 24 hours
§ Use
an air conditioner or a dehumidifier to reduce the indoor humidity levelsbelow 60%. If you have a central air conditioning system and need adehumidifier to reduce relative humidity below 60%, you should
have the airconditioning system examined
for problems
§ Do
not carpet bathrooms or basementsWe recommend Bonita Springs homeowners
keep their humidity levels below 55% if possible.
Note: While most
experts suggest a relative humidity of less than 60%, below 50% is best for controlling both mold growth and dust mites.
Dust mites are microscopic animals related to spiders, ticks and other mites. Dust mites eat mold and dead
human or animal skin scales (flakes) and leave allergenic proteins. Dust mites reduce allergen production at these lowerhumidity levels.
Bonita Springs / Estero Mold Assessors have a
different license than Bonita Springs / Estero Home Inspectors. Bonita Springs / Estero Home
inspectors have different insurance requirements and experience requirements. Naples Home Inspectors do not need experience
to be licensed. Bonita Springs / Estero Mold Inspectors that are Certified Indoor Environmentalists
(CIE) have proven experience and passed an exam required by the Florida DBPR. Most licensed Bonita Springs
/ Estero Mold Assessors / Inspectors are not CIE's and were "grandfathered" into the license and did
not pass the required CIE or CIEC or CMC exam. ( http://acac.org/certify/FL.aspx ) Less than a dozen CIE's in Bonita Springs / Estero and over a hundred mold inspectors
licensed.
Bonita Springs and Estero seasonal
residents should know that remote temperature and humidity monitors can call you when the power is out, Temperature or humidity
rise in your home.
Home watch service may not be enough, visit the day before problem
and it can be 2 weeks before problem is discoverd.
High humidity in your Bonita Springs
house or condo can cause expensive damage to furniture, clothes and other belongings by allowing a humidity bloom to occur
in the residence.Humidity Bloom- mold spores are always present in your home, when there is elevated moisture
in the air mold spores will grow on almost anything (food and water) even dust can feed mold spores.Mold
grows sort of like a tree, with roots and branches; the roots can grow into cushions and almost any cloth material some can
not be cleaned and must be discarded
